Day 14 - Wednesday - 29/07/09

Yassas!!!

Hidra day 2!!! What to say... I still can't imagine I'm on a Greek island...

We woke up had a nice breakfast at the hotel and went for a walk. It's very realaxing in here and I liked it a lot!

We went to the other side of the port where the museum is located. Hidra was very important during the Greek revolution against the Turkish domination and the museum shows a bit of its history.

Than we went to a bar for our last drink in Hidra, this time it was just a juice but it was great anyway.

When got a bigger boat to come back but it moved a lot 'cause it was fast and the front would go up and than touch the sea again... Evi was really uncomfortable 'cause she doesn't like boats and she thought she would feel sick... I was laughing my read off and enjoying it just like a swing ride!!! :o)))

We got home really tired, had a shower, a bite to eat, some chat and went to bed... 'cause I'm on holidays but Evi has to work tomorrow...

Hidra was perfect! It isn't as famous as Santorini, Mikonos or Rhodes but I'd highly recommend it!!!

Day 13 - Tuesday - 28/07/09

Yassas!!!

Today was a strange day that started in a strange way... I was really excited 'cause I was going to a Greek island and on the same time I was sad 'cause it was my mom's birthday and the it would be the first one that I wouldn't be with her since I exist... and it started in a strange way 'cause the trip to Hidra, the island, was really tiring and boring... We had to wake up at 5:30 take a train to Athens for 2 hours than have another 2-hour trip by boat to Hidra. Only 2 hours 'cause the boat was fast... by the way too fast...

But everything changed when we got there... WOW!!! It's just perfect!!! It's a small island which is home of many painters, writers and intellectuals and artists in general but it's awesome!!!

We had breakfast and lunch with great views... and it was the first time I tried lamb... didn't like very much but it wasn't so important...

We walked around the island and then had some rest to get ready for the night... The hotel we stayed is great too... small like the island (only 6 rooms) but really cosy... It's called Hotel Sofia.

At night we went to a T-shirt shop. Evi just love the song "Ja sei namorar" and we listen to it and sing it all the time on her car... so she decided to make a T-shirt with the chorus (Eu sou de ninguem, eu sou de todo mundo e todo mundo e meu tambem) for the two of us.

After that we had dinner at this amazing restaurant... The view was great, the food was great, the music was great and it was great to be with her there... We ordered a bottle of wine and had it all!!! Of course I remembered Gabi, not for the alcohol but 'cause the wine was great and I'm learning to appreciate it!

We went to another bar for a second drink and walked to the hotel... by the way it's not allowed to have cars, motos or bikes in Hidra. There are only two ways of moving around: walking or on a donkey's back :)

Yassas!!!

PS.: It's great to have my friend with me in this trip 'cause you all know what does it means to me... You're all in my heart. Thanks for the comments :)) And get ready 'cause I've got more than a thousand photos hahahaha!!!!

Day 12 - Monday - 27/07/09

Yassas!!!

Oh I hate Mondays... specially after a tiring weekend... But you know what, this one wasn't that bad.

Evi went to work and I woke up late. Then I had one of my favourite dishes so far, Bamias, or simply okra!!! Yeah, that very vegetable that I used to hate in Brazil and that when I saw on my dish I could only think O.M.G!!! I won't eat it!!! But I tried and I liked it!!! And Evi's mom cooked again for me.

In the afternoon we went to the beach to have some coffee and play some tavlia or gammon.

Then we met Evi's friend Sya again and while they talked I enjoyed this amazing sunset.

That's all... tomorrow I'm going to a Greek island!!!!

Day 11 - Sunday - 26/07/09

Yassas!!! Ti kanete! Emai kala!

Well I'm feeling much better today. We woke up at midday and went for a coffee with Theo, Efitehia (George's sister) and Stavros, her boyfriend. They wanted to make some comments about the wedding.

Today was Saint Paraskevi's day and it was Evi's name day. Well let me explain... Here in Greece people are named after Orthodox saints and day celebrate both their birthdays and their name days, which would be the saint's day. For example, it would be like if in Brazil everyone named Joao would celebrate their name day on 24th June.

Anyway, we went to a taberna on the beach for some ouzo, the Greek traditional drink made of anis, and a bite to eat. The guy on the left is Stavros and the blonde one next to me is Efitehia (her name means Happiness).

Later we went to Wedding number 3, Katherina's wedding. She's one of Evi's best friends and we met last week at her Bachelor's party at the Bouzouki. She's from a small village on the mountains and she got married in a church next to her house, but the reception was in a nice hotel by the beach in another small town.

This wedding was very nice and the atmosphere was totally different. On the photo three school friends: Evi, Katherina ans Vasiliki.

Well, I must confess that I'm getting a bit tired of all these weddings...

Yassas!!!

PS.: Have you noticed my dress? It's a Greek one ;o)))

Day 10 - Saturday - 25/07/09

Yassas!

Today wasn't a perfect day. I woke up a bit moody and I guess I'm feeling a bit homesick... anyway, I'm Greece for the Summer and shouldn't feel this way.

We went out for a coffee with Sya a friend of Evi who I met 5 years ago.

Later we got ready for Wedding number 2. And I had some Moussaka, a Greek typical dish.

The church was very beautiful but that was all. The atmosphere wasn't happy and everybody seemed to be bored to death.

The guy in the photo is Dimitri, George's cousin who I met 5 years ago too and who will be the groom of Wedding number 4 next week.

Weel, I guess that's all... ahh, to complete the gloomy atmosphere both Dimitri and Stavros (George's sister's boyfriend) crashed their cars... nothing serious but...

Let's hope Wedding number 3 to be better!

Day 9 - Friday - 24/07/09

Yassas!!!

Today was another really hot day, about 43 degrees. When Evi came back from work we went to the travel Agency and bought our tickets to Hidra. It's gonna be awesome! Hidra a really nice island near Korinthos which Evi loves, and we'll spend two days there next week.

Later we went to Athens for some shopping and we went to two really big malls. I bought somethings for myself and we had some coffee.

Unfortunately we had to come back earlier because of a strike and didn't manage to go to the cinema. Anyway it was another great day!

As a real sports girl I couldn't help myself taking a photo of the Athens Olympic Stadium.

Being here for 20 days and with a local is great 'cause we go to places that tourists usually don't go.

My Greek has improved a lot and everybody is quite impressed that I can comunicate. I've already got a pendant, a silk scarf and some nail polisher just for speaking some basic Greek expressions!!!

Day 8 - Thursday - 23/07/09

Yassas!!!

Today was a really busy day! We woke up early and I wen to work with Evi. She works in a nearby city called Xilokastro, about 30 minutes from her house. I attended her first class with a 9 year-old girl (most of the classes here in Greece are private ones and they're mainly exam oriented) and then went out for some sightseeing.

I walked by the beach and also visited a church near Evi's school.

In the afternoon we went to the beach and had some juice at this bar, it was great!!!

Later we went to the hairdresser's and got home for a bite to eat. Evi's mom cooks really well and she's very pleased to cook me some Greek traditional dishes. I've already got a recipe book and I'll try to reproduce them back in Brazil.

At night we went to the same bar for some drinks and to another one called Caribbean for a second drink. We had some Sex on the beach, the drink I mean hahahahaha... And went back home on George's car!

What a day!!!

Day 7 - Wednesday - 22/07/09

Yassas!!! Ti kanete; Emai kala.

Today was a really tough day. Evi had to work from 9a.m. till 6p.m. so I decided to update the blog and check the e-mails, or as she would say have a really exiting day in Greece! hahaha...

The best part of the day was getting back home and having some cold drinks and gossip on the terrace.

We were supposed to go to the beach in the afternoon and have a Bachelor's party at night but a friend of hers broke up with his girlfriend and the girl was going through some bad time and would only talk to Evi. So we couldn't go to the beach and as the party would be at the boy's house it was also called off.

We went there tough to try to cheer him up and we had some pizza. I also met Vincent a really huge tough sweet dog.
